World University Cycling Championship not to be held in June 2020

Due to the recent developments in the situation surrounding the COVID-19 virus around the world and in host country the Netherlands, it was becoming more and more uncertain if the World University Cycling Championship 2020 could take place as planned. Today the Organising Committee and the FISU have taken the decision that the World University Cycling Championship 2020 will not take place this June.

Although we were looking forward to hosting the event this June, the safety and well-being of all members, athletes, officials and staff is of the utmost importance. At this time the Organising Committee and the FISU are evaluating the possibilities for hosting this event in 2021. Postponing to June 2021 seems to be the best option for all stake holders of the event and for ensuring the safety of everybody involved.

The last three months of preparations for hosting the WUCC, were on track and the Organising Committee will keep up their efforts to make it possible to still host an extraordinary edition of WUCC in Nijmegen in 2021. We will keep you all up to date about new developments regarding the WUCC.

We hope to see you all in better times and of course during our event! Be safe and look after each other in these difficult times.

In name of the Organising Committee of the World University Cycling Championship 2020,

Joost van Wijngaarden
President of the Organising Committee
